LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a tool for evaluating green buildings, aiming to effectively reduce the negative impact of buildings on the environment and occupants. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) since 1993, LEED is one of the most globally recognized and widely used green building certification systems.
This system primarily evaluates aspects such as energy efficiency, water conservation, reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, and improvement of indoor living quality, providing third-party certification for buildings and communities. The LEED certification system includes multiple categories, such as LEED-Home and LEED-NC. The former is mainly targeted at residential products, including single-family homes and duplex villas, while the latter is applicable to commercial buildings.
The LEED rating system works by awarding points to buildings for sustainable systems and design elements used in the construction(such as door mats, aluminum floor door mats, anti-fatigue mats, etc). Building projects can earn up to 110 points. By using the rating system, buildings can become LEED-certified, promoting the development of future sustainable sites.
LEED has been applied in 178 countries worldwide, covering over 100,000 projects. China is the largest LEED market outside of the United States. In China, over 5,000 commercial projects have participated in LEED, with more than 2,000 having received official LEED certification.
